Happy 6th Birthday Paige Dec. 12, 2008

Paige had a great birthday party. We ate pizza and cake and she opened lots of great presents. Her favorite present was her Nintendo DS Lite. She was also very excited that her kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Milligan, was able to come and hang out. She thought that was pretty cool!! She is in the second picture above. It is hard to believe she is 6. Time flys when you are having fun.
Happy Birthday, Paige!! We love you very much.

Paige is Hilarious (and smart)

Paige's school held a mock election today. Before Paige voted she asked her teacher, "do I have to vote the same as my parents vote?"

Happy Halloween

We had a great Halloween. Paige had fun at her school party and got a good start on the candy collection. We were a little worried because it was raining yesterday afternoon but it cleared up just in time for Trick or Treating and the weather was great. As you can see, Paige was a Snow Princess. I wish the camera could have captured her sparkling hair. We put lots of glitter spray in her hair and we will probably have glitter on our floor for a while!! :) At this very moment Paige is sorting and counting her candy from last night. She is very happy!!

We Are So Proud of Paige

We had our first parent/teacher conference today and Paige got her first report card. Drum roll please...............she did awesome!! She got checkmarks on everything from math to behaviors and all in between. She was also above the benchmarks in reading and literacy. We are so proud of her. She continues to blossom into a beautiful, smart young lady. God has truly blessed us with a great child!!

Ellington Racing......Champion Frogs

This post is a little late but I thought I would share anyway. A couple of weeks ago Paige's class learned about toads and frogs and at the end of the week they had their big "Frog Jump". Preston and Paige had a great time looking for frogs. They ended up with 3 toads and 1 bullfrog. The picture only shows 3....the other one was camera shy!! It wasn't really a race---we got a little carried away as you can see on the box. But it was great fun. I think the end result was that Paige learned that frogs can jump farther than toads. She had a lot of fun.

Way to Go Paige

Paige got her 5 week progress report this week. She received all check marks!! This means she has met all her objectives. The teacher commented that she is very glad to have Paige in class and that Paige always has something to contribute!! Way to go Paige!! Just a few more weeks and we will get her 1st report card!!

The Great Boat Float

The Great Boat Float was a success. As you can see, Paige won the award for "Best Unicorn Boat". She was very proud, as are we. Her boat did in fact float!! Great job Paige!!

Family Project

We got our first "family project" assignment from Paige's teacher last Friday. The assignment was to build a boat from anything we wanted. The only rule was that everyone had to participate. We couldn't just put something together for Paige and send it to school. As if she would let us do that!! We spent a couple of hours Monday trying to construct a Noah's Ark type boat from popsicle sticks. Well, there were many flaws in our plan and needless to say, Noah's boat did not float!! But we had fun trying to put it together and we moved on to plan B. The above pictures are the fruits of our labor. We all helped. We made the body of the boat with styrofoam. I couldn't find the hot glue gun so duct tape did the trick to keep it all together. Paige wanted it to be a unicorn boat so we picked up the decorations at Hobby Lobby today. We didn't like the look of silver duct tape so we got this cooky idea to cover it with bubble wrap. I am glad we did. I think it is the coolest boat. Paige glued on the unicorns and the "pom-poms" on top. We also made a bracelet that said "PAIGE" to drape over the back. After it was all put together we tested it in the bathtub to make sure it floats. Preston laughed when I suggested it. With all the styrofoam and a little help from bubble wrap he said it would take at least 15 pounds to sink that thing!! HAHA!! But we all enjoyed the maiden voyage!!

Paige is Brilliant

Here are a couple of pictures from Paige's class today. Each day the teacher draws a name and they take some time to get to know that person a little better. Paige was very excited that her name was drawn today. Her classmates each made a picture that was then put into this book. The first picture is the cover of that book. The second picture is Paige's drawing. It was really special. Just check out how great Paige can write her name!! I don't think I can even write that straight without lines!! They also all asked her questions about herself and her teacher wrote it out on a big piece of butcher paper. (Sorry, it was too big to scan) Paige is very proud. She has read it to me and Preston at least a dozen times today!!

Paige is doing amazing work in kindergarten. We are so proud of her. And she has become very independent in this new role. Parents are allowed to walk their kids into class for the first two weeks only. After that they must be dropped off in the car rider lanes. Well......last Wednesday (only her third day of school) Paige asked us- "please just drop me off today." All the way to school I practically begged her to let me take her in. Of course she said no. She was ready to do this on her own. And my heart was nearly broken to let her go but I knew she was ready.

Yeah Paige!!

As you all know, Paige began kindergarten today. It was really awesome. Preston and I took her to her classroom this morning and she went right in and put her backpack up and sat down ready to get started. Preston and I hung around for a few minutes until Paige got up and gave us both a hug. It wasn't a "please don't leave me" hug but instead an "ok mom and dad....you can go now" kind of hug!! I held it together until we left and then I couldn't hold back the tears. It was hard to leave her.

She had a great day! She met some new friends, played on the playground, ate lunch in the big cafeteria, and got to know her teacher. Her favorite thing about today was that she did not have to take a nap.

Looking Forward (And A Look Back)

This is my last post before Paige will be a kindergartener!! We took Paige to her new school Thursday night for Open House. She met her new teacher and got to see her classroom and meet a few of her new classmates. She loved her classroom so much she did not want to leave! Our little girl is growing up. This is an exciting time for Paige as she gets to spread her beautiful little wings and fly......I am just not sure I am ready for her to leave the nest!!

Please pray for our family and for Paige as she begins a new season in her life. Pray that she is able to "let her light shine" and pray for God to send His angels to protect her.

If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. --Psalm 91:9-11

Here is a look back at Paige's first year (2002-2003).

Paige Is Swimming!!

Paige can now swim without a life jacket or floaties!! Yeah Paige!! We are so excited. After taking swimming lessons for the last 3 summers we were disappointed that Paige was still unable to really swim. All she needed was some help from her cousin Jacob.

Paige is sooooo FUNNY........

After returning home from the grocery store this afternoon Paige asked for a bowl of her new cereal. I had already started dinner. The rest of our conversation went like this:

Mom: Paige, don't you want some chicken?

Paige: Yes.

Mom: Ok, then you can't have any cereal right now. Dinner will be ready soon.

Paige: Come to think of it, I don't want any chicken.

Mom: You are just saying that because you want some cereal. Dinner will be ready soon.

Paige: Aw mom......you always know what I'm up to!!

It is hard to believe that 5 years have gone by so fast. Paige and I are enjoying these last couple of weeks together at home. I know that once school starts it will all go by so fast. I will keep you updated on all the cool new things she is learning and doing. Love you all!!
